Apollo Thirteen: Survival documentary will stream on Wednesday, 5th September on Netflix. This documentary is produced by the British production company Insight Film. The Apollo 13 mission was the 3rd NASA’s mission to land on the moon. It was launched from Kennedy Space Centre on 11th April 1970. This mission was commanded by astronaut Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, the command module pilot, and Fred Haise, the Lunar module pilot.
But unfortunately, the mission of lunar landing was aborted because an oxygen tank ruptured after two days into the mission. This disabled Apollo 13’s electrical and life-support system. However, the crew returned to earth safely on 17th April 1970. This mission marked the greatest crisis happened in NASA’s history.
The commander of Apollo 13, James Arthur Lovell aka Jim Lovell is a 96-year-old American retired astronaut. His wife died because of natural causes at the age of 93.
In an interview, Apollo 13 Captain Jim Lovell said, “More than 50 years after the mission, the film put me right back in the captain’s seat. Those were the days! Seeing the historic footage and hearing the perspectives of family and friends on the ground truly stirred my emotions. I am grateful the world now has this excellent documentary showing the raw emotions and triumph we felt back then. My hope is our experience in space will continue to inspire new heights of exploration for many years to come.”
Jack Swigert the command module pilot of Apollo 13 was an American NASA astronaut, mechanical engineer, aerospace engineer, United States Air Force pilot, and politician. He passed away on December 27, 1982 at the age of 51.
Fred Wallace Haise aka Fred Haise is a 90-year-old, former NASA astronaut. He was the Lunar module pilot of Apollo 13. He has published his autobiography titled ‘Never Panic Early’ about his life and experiences in the Apollo program in the year 2022.
Captain Jim Lovell’s wife Marilyn Lovell said, “I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I didn't know for four days if I was a wife or a widow,” to the press.
