Sushant Singh Rajput, a 34-year-old Bollywood actor, died in his Bandra flat a year ago on June 14, prompting three national authorities, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), to launch an investigation. However, none of the agencies has released a concrete report on Rajput’s death.
The actor died by suicide, according to the Mumbai Police Department, who filed an accidental death report. “He died by suicide,” stated then-Mumbai Police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police Pranay Ashok after his death. The Mumbai Police Department is conducting an investigation. “At this time, no (suicide) note has been discovered by the police.”
The actor's father filed a FIR in Patna on June 28, 2020, accusing six people of abetting Rajput's suicide, including actor Rhea Chakraborty and her family members. In his case, the actor's father also alleged that Rs15 crore had been transferred from his son's account to a few bank accounts with which he (Sushant) was associated.
The incident sparked political controversy, prompting the Bihar government to refer the case to the CBI. The CBI filed a FIR against Ms. Chakraborty and others on August 6, 2020, and began an investigation.
A team of CBI officials camped out in Mumbai, taking down statements from a variety of witnesses, recreating the scene at the actor's home, and even enlisting the help of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to submit a forensic report.
Meanwhile, the ED, which is investigating the money laundering case, discovered references to drugs in mobile phone data it collected throughout its probe.
The NCB was brought into the investigation after receiving a letter from the ED. “We have so far detained 35 offenders, recovered 7 kg of drugs, 35 lakh, and some foreign currency,” NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede gave statement after a ten-month investigation. The Sushant Singh murder case is still under investigation.”
Officials from the CBI also stated that the case was still being investigated. “We're looking into everything,” a top CBI officer said on condition of anonymity.
S.K. Mishra, the director of the ED, did not respond to calls or texts.
“I don't blame the investigating authorities that the charge sheet hasn't been submitted yet because there is so much mystery surrounding his death,” said senior counsel Vikas Singh, who represents Rajput's family. Everything took place in a locked room. The family is waiting patiently for justice to be served."
