An Army Lieutenant has tragically died in a road accident in Patara, Jalandhar. An Army captain was present with him at the time of the accident whose condition remains critical. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred due to excess fog. The deceased lieutenant has been identified as Lieutenant Achhit and was originally a resident of Haryana.
The injured Captain, Captain Yuvraj, resident of Nagaur, Rajasthan, is undergoing treatment in the military hospital. The police have taken the body into their custody and sent it for postmortem.
The accident happened at the T-point located near Narangpur village of Patara. Investigating officer ASI Jeevan Singh said that the Lieutenant and the Captain were returning from Haripur Range to their head office in Jalandhar Cantt in a personal car, a Hyundai Creta. When he reached near Narangpur, the car went out of control and overturned. Both the Lieutenant and the Captain were seriously injured.
The Captain was conscious at the time of the incident, so he immediately informed his officers about the accident. With the help of nearby pedestrians, the Lieutenant was admitted to Johal Hospital in Rama Mandi for treatment where he was declared dead by the doctors. At the same time, the Captain suffered a lot of internal injuries, due to which his statement has not been made yet.
ASI Jeevan Singh said that the accident happened around 2:30 AM on Saturday. He received information about the incident in the morning following which he immediately reached the Civil Hospital. The police said that there was heavy fog at night at the time of the incident which caused the accident. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding smog in the state for four days from today.
