Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami indeed knows how to remain in limelight. Thanks to his aggressive journalism and his self-proclaimed 'nationalist' media. While Arnab Goswami's fight with the Maharashtra government on the legal front is still going on, there is another setback coming for the controversial journalist.
Going by the various media reports, Republic Bharat, the Hindi news channel arm of Republic TV, was fined 20,000 pounds (approximately Rs 19.73 lakh) by the United Kingdom’s communications regulator Office of Communications on Tuesday. As per reports, Republic Bharat has been fined for allegedly spreading hatred against Pakistan through its content.
On Tuesday Ofcom imposed the Rs 20 lakh fine on Worldview Media Network Limited which holds the license for Republic Bharat, which targets the Hindi speaking community in the UK, for various breaches of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.
Republic Bharat has also been asked to air an apology on the channel. The programme for which Republic Bharat has been fined was related to India’s Chandrayaan 2 spacecraft mission to the moon and “involved a comparison of India’s space exploration and technological advancements compared to Pakistan, and Pakistan’s alleged terrorist activities against India.
