AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday suffered defeat in Delhi Election 2025. BJP's controversial candidate Parvesh Verma won from the New Delhi constituency by 4089 votes (as per ECI). After suffering defeat, the former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also issued a video in which he said that he will continue to work for the betterment of people and play the role of 'constructive opposition' Below is what Arvind Kejriwal said-
"Today, Delhi's Election Results have come and I humbly accept the mandate given by the public. I congratulate to the BJP and hope they will stand up to the people's mandate. We worked a lot in the past 10 years for the people of Delhi. Be it in education, health, water, electricity, etc we tried to provide relief to the people. We also tried to improve Delhi's infrastructure. Now, not only we will play the role of constructive opposition but we will also do social work, help people who are problem. Because we did not come in politics for power. I also want to congratulate AAP workers for fighting polls admirably."
Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also suffers defeat
Talking to mediapersons, Sisodia congratulated Tarvinder Singh Marwah of the BJP and conceded defeat. In the last round of counting, Sisodia was trailing by 572 votes. After beating Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Verma spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone. His victory margin over Kejriwal was almost equal to the nearly 3,000 votes garnered by Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit.
The BJP leaders remained tightlipped about its Chief Ministerial candidate after the party achieved a majority with over 45 seats in a 70-member Assembly which has 36 as the majority mark. Sisodia, described as the brain behind the AAP’s education revolution, had shifted to the Jangpura seat from Patparganj from where he had won the 2020 election.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also fired a tweet that reads, "(Translated version) Delhiites have shown that the public cannot be mislead by repeated false promises. The public has responded to the dirty Yamuna, dirty drinking water, broken roads, overflowing sewers and liquor shops open in every street with their votes.
I heartily congratulate all the workers of @BJP4Delhi who worked day and night for this grand victory in Delhi, BJP National President Mr. @JPNadda ji and State President Mr. @Virend_Sachdeva ji. Be it the respect for women, the self-respect of unauthorized colony residents or the immense possibilities of self-employment, Delhi will now become an ideal capital under the leadership of Modiji."
