Just five days before the announcement of the result of the elections, the Congress party forming an alliance with AAP has become the talk of the town. The Legislative Assembly elections were held in Punjab on 20 February 2022 to elect the 117 members of the 16th Assembly of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

Congress is trying its best to retain power. The news of forming an alliance gained attention after Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, former Chief Minister of Punjab, during an interview shared that Congress might form an alliance with the AAP party in Punjab to become the ruling party. However, Aam Aadmi Party has put an end to all such statements by saying that they are not interested in forming an alliance.

According to the reports, AAP has a great chance of winning seats in many constituencies in Punjab. But, they will get the majority of seats or not is still a question. At the time of elections in Delhi, Congress lends a helping hand to AAP party to become the ruling party, but this step, later on, backfired on Congress.

As per survey reports, AAP might emerge as the single largest party in Punjab. Who will win, who will lose, it will be decided on March 10.

This was the first time it was a five-cornered contest to elect the ruling party in Punjab. Earlier it was a direct contest between the SAD-BJP alliance and the Congress. SAD dissolved its alliance with the BJP, which had lasted over two decades, over the controversial Farm Bills passed by the BJP-controlled Indian Parliament in 2020. On 13 June 2021, SAD and BSP announced an alliance for the assembly election with 97-20 seat sharing. On 28 December 2021, BJP, PLC and SAD(S) announced an alliance for the assembly elections. AAP contested all the seats without any alliance.
