Ensuring road safety is a shared responsibility, and while individuals must take steps to protect themselves, traffic police play a key role in safeguarding lives. A new mandate has been introduced regarding helmet usage. While not wearing a helmet is already a traffic violation, the rules have now become stricter. If a helmet is not worn correctly, drivers will face fines ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 under Section 194D of the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA).
These rules apply to all two-wheeler riders. It’s not just about wearing a helmet – it must be properly secured. Riders must ensure the chin strap is fastened, and helmets with broken or missing straps will also lead to penalties. Moreover, helmets must have the ISI (Indian Standards Institute) mark. Whether you’re riding a scooter or a motorcycle, helmets without the ISI mark are not permissible. Failure to follow these guidelines can result in fines of up to ₹2,000.
