Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar detained in a military coup, one year emergency declared in Burma

The tensions between the civilian government of Myanmar and the military intensified.

Myanmar, also known as Burma was controlled by military until 2011. The de-facto leader, Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi, President and leaders of various states have been detained by military again in the wee hours on Monday.

After the arrests, the military TV confirmed a state of emergency. The military TV declared emergency for one year.

The tensions between the civilian government of Myanmar and the military intensified. After the coup attempt, the power is now vested with Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing. Soldiers are guarding the capital, Nay Pyi Taw.

According to several reports, the coup is a violation of the constitution of Myanmar drafter by military about a decade ago.

The United States has condemned the coup. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for the release of all government officials and civil society leaders, according to a report published in BBC.

John Sifton of Human Rights Watch said, "The military junta that ruled Myanmar for decades never really stepped away from power in the first place."

Moreover, the situation is still tense. Telecom connections have been snapped and state broadcast TV is unable to telecast its programs due to the coup.
