India and Australia are fighting hard to win the ongoing test series. However, the Indian Cricket Team are not only focused on winning the series but also to the injuries of player and now racial abuse by the Australian crowd. Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) on Friday reported that Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar had to face racial abuse once again at the Gabba. SMH quoted a spectator who revealed Siraj was continuously abused by the vocal spectators in Section 215 and 216 of the stadium when he was fielding there.
SMH reported that the spectators shouted the name of Siraj and called him 'bloody grub'. SHM quoted a spectator who revealed, "At one point, a man in that section was heard yelling, 'Siraj, give us a wave, give us a wave, give us a wave. Siraj, you bloody grub'."
The source also revealed that the abuse then transferred to Washington when he swapped with Siraj at that particular fielding spot. "The guys behind me have been calling -- shouting -- both Washington and Siraj grubs," said the spectator.
'Grub', an Australian slang, is used for a person who is unclean or who has messy habits.
Such incidents of racial abuse and that too in a developed nation like Australia degrade its sports culture. While not every Australians are racist but even a single incident maligns the image of Australia.
