Ever since the Republic channel's name has come into the TRP scam, there is a huge controversy going on. Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh claimed to have busted the fake TRP scam in which the Republic channel's name has also been revealed. Addressing a press conference, Param Bir Singh said that the TRP is calculated on the basis of TV channel viewership in a confidential set of households. Accused would bribe these households and ask them to run some channels continuously even if they were not home. The BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) releases weekly rating points for TV channels in India and its own officials are also being questioned in connection with the case.
"The owners of Marathi channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema have been arrested. Arrests were made under sections 409 and 420 of IPC," added Param Bir Singh.
Now Bajaj Auto has responded to the TRP scam. The elite company has blacklisted three channels for advertising on account of spreading toxicity and hate-mongering in the society, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto told a business channel on Friday.
Talking to a news channel, Rajiv said, "We all are in the business of building brands and a strong brand is the foundation on which you build a strong business. And at the end of the day, as everybody would agree, the purpose of a strong and solid business is to contribute not only to the business itself but also to the society at large."
"At Bajaj, for example, we are very clear that our brand would never be associated with anything that we feel, beyond reasonable doubt, is a source of toxicity in our society," he added.
Although India Today's name has also come in the TRP scam. The media company has also admitted to the report that it was fined Rs 5 lakh by the BARC. It will be interesting to see whether Rajiv Bajaj will blacklist the India Today network or not?
