On Tuesday, #Ban_AltBalaji started to trend on X with fans lambasting Balaji Telefilms Ltd's co-owner Ekta Kapoor over multiple issues. #Ban_AltBalaji is trending in the backdrop that a few days back, a complaint was filed against producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor under the POCSO Act. It is alleged that they had filmed objectionable scenes of a minor girl in the web series 'Gandi Baat' that streams on AltBalaji. So far 6 seasons of this series have been released.
Furthermore, many social media users are sharing their videos to highlight the old controversies linked to the Ekta Kapoor and Alt Balaji Web series. Many highlighted that Ekta Kapoor showcased extra marital affairs of a soldier's wife in one of the series on her OTT platform. However, Ekta Kapoor has already faced legal trouble over this issue in the past.
Amita Sachdeva who is said to be an Advocate of Delhi High Court took to her X handle and wrote, "Ekta Kapoor’s OTT platform ‘Alt Balaji’ continues to insult Indian culture. From February to April 2021, the series Gandi Baat streamed on Alt Balaji, featuring obscene scenes with minor girls, which led to a formal complaint and an FIR against @EktaaRKapoor and her mother.
It's good that an FIR has been registered, but she deserves multiple FIRs and strict punishment to ensure that in the future, she thinks twice before insulting Indian culture. Under the guise of freedom of expression, this OTT platform promotes cheap popularity by disrespecting our culture and even our army. In the past, Alt Balaji has aired content that disrespected the Indian Army as well. There must be a ban on Alt Balaji for spreading such moral decay, and censorship should be mandatory for OTT platforms."
What are the new accusations against Ekta Kapoor?
A complaint has been filed against the former producer of this app, Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor, for showing obscene scenes of minor girls in an episode of season 6 of the web series 'Gandi Baat' of the OTT platform ALT Balaji. It is written in the complaint that this series, which streamed on 'ALT Balaji' between February 2021 and April 2021, showed obscene scenes of minor girls. However, this controversial episode is not currently streaming on this app.
In the complaint made by the complainant, it has been alleged that men and saints were insulted by using cigarette advertisements in this web series. Due to this, the sentiments of the complainant were also hurt. Also, in an episode of this series, some scenes violating the rules of the POCSO Act were shown. Looking at all the allegations, it appears that along with POCSO, laws like the Information Technology Act 2000, Prohibition of Women Act 1986, and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 have also been violated due to the content.
