As we welcome the year 2025, a fresh list of bank holidays has been announced. According to guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks across the country will observe 15 holidays in January 2025. However, these holidays will vary by state and region, as they include a mix of national, local, and public holidays. It is advisable to check the holiday schedule specific to your state to plan your banking activities accordingly.
List of bank holidays for January 2025
January 1: New Year’s Day
- In many states of the country, banks will remain closed for the commencement of the New Year.
2 January: New Year and Mannam Jayanti
- Banks will remain closed due to the New Year in Mizoram state and Mannam Jayanti in Kerala.
5 January: Sunday
- Weekly holiday in all banks as per RBI guidelines applicable to all states.
6 January: Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti
- Banks will remain closed on Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti in Haryana and Punjab states.
11 January: Second Saturday
- Banks across the country will remain closed as it is the second Saturday of the month.
January 12: Sunday and Swami Vivekananda Jayanti
- All banks will remain closed on Sunday. January 12 is also celebrated as National Youth Day or Yuva Diwas on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda ji.
January 13: Lohri festival
- banks in the states of Punjab and Haryana shall remain closed on the occasion of the Lohri festival.
January 14: Makar Sankranti and Pongal
- Banks will remain closed in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu on account of Makar Sankranti and Pongal.
January 15: Thiruvalluvar Day, Magh Bihu and Makar Sankranti
- These local festivals will be celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Assam, and other states.
January 16: Ujjavar Tirunal
- Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Ujjavar Tirunal in Tamil Nadu.
January 19: Sunday
- Weekly holiday in all banks.
January 22: Imoin
- Banks will remain closed on account of the Imoin festival in Manipur.
January 23: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti
- Banks will remain closed in Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, West Bengal, Jammu, Kashmir, and Delhi because of Netaji’s birth anniversary.
25 January: Fourth Saturday
- All banks will remain closed as it is the fourth Saturday of the month.
26 January: Republic Day
- All banks will remain closed on Republic Day across the country.
30 January: Sonam Losar
- Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Sonam Losar in Sikkim.
