A state-wise official holiday list has been released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) every month, and now it has released a list of holidays for April 2025, which also marks the beginning of the new fiscal year, FY26.
It is to be noted that the bank holidays vary from one state to another, and a few are observed to be international, regional, and religious observances.
The recently released list includes around seven holidays, including holidays on three festivals, Mahavir Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti, and Good Friday, which will mark a holiday in April 2025.
The detailed date-wise and state-wise calendar for April 2025 is as follows:
April 1, Tuesday - Banks Yearly Account Closing and Sarhul
According to the calendar shared by RBI, the banks will remain closed all around the nation on April 1 to mark yearly account finalization. Along with this, the banks are especially closed in Jharkhand on the occasion of Sarhul, marking the beginning of the new year.
April 5, Saturday - Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday
The banks remain closed on April 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram. The occasion is only celebrated in Telangana, resulting in the closure only in the mentioned state.
April 10, Thursday - Mahavir Jayanti
To celebrate the birth of Lord Mahavir, the banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and West Bengal.
April 14, Monday - Ambedkar Jayanti
April 14 marks the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, who is known as the father of the Indian Constitution. On this occasion, it is expected that the banks will remain closed in many states - including Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
Along with this, the banks will also remain closed in a few more states due to regional New Year celebrations, which are known as Vishu, Bihu, and Tamil New Year.
April 15, Tuesday - Himachal Day, Bengali New Year and Bohag Bihu
On April 15, the banks will be non-operational in a few states of the country to mark the regional festivities. The closure will be witnessed in Himachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh to observe Himachal Day, Bohag Bidhu, and Bengali New Year.
April 18, Friday - Good Friday
This year, April 18 will be marked as Good Friday, which is celebrated to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The day is celebrated in some states of India, and it also marks the closure of bank services. The states include Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Rajasthan, Tripura, and Assam.
April 21, Monday - Garia Puja
Tripura will witness the closure of the bank and its services on April 21 to celebrate a regional festival, Garia Puja, which is marked by the local tribes of the state.
April 29, Tuesday - Shri Parshuram Jayanti
Banks across Himachal Pradesh will remain closed to celebrate Shri Parshuram Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
April 30, Wednesday - Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya
Karnataka will mark the closure of banks on April 30 to celebrate Basava Jayanti, which honors Basavanna. Along with this, the day also marks Akshaya Tritiya, which is considered to be a day for prosperity and wealth.
