UPI and Banking services to be stopped on THESE numbers from April 1; Know why

From April 1, Banks and UPI service providers are going to close those accounts and UPI IDs whose associated mobile numbers have been inactive for a long time.

The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed banks and UPI apps to remove inactive mobile numbers from the system by March 31. If a number has not been used for 90 days for calling, SMS, or data it is considered inactive and telecom companies can allocate it to a new user. This increases the possibility of fraud in banking and digital transactions.

Inactive numbers will be removed every week

NPCI has also directed that banks and UPI apps to update the list of inactive and recycled numbers every week after April 1 and remove them from their system. If your mobile number is linked to a bank or UPI account and if it remains inactive for a long time, your account may be closed.

If your registered mobile number is inactive for a long time, recharge it as soon as possible and send at least one call or message. Update information in the bank and UPI apps- if you have taken a new mobile number, Update it immediately in bank and UPI apps. Keep SMS and OTP services enabled - Many times banks and UPI apps send OTP to your number, so keep SMS services enabled to get important updates.

What if your number is deleted?

If your inactive number is removed from the banking system after April 1, your UPI transactions may fail and you will have to register with a new number.
