After Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, now Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned BJP leader Rahul Sinha from campaigning for 48 hours over his provocative statements related to the Cooch Behar firing incident.
Meanwhile on Monday evening, Mamata Banerjee was banned from campaigning for 24 hours after allegations of instigating the mob to gherao CAPF during the fourth phase of polling.
During the fourth phase of polling in Bengal, an incident of violence erupted at a polling booth in Cooch Behar. The incident has caught the attention of both BJP and TMC, and its leaders are blaming each other for disturbing circumstances. TMC alleged that Central forces opened fire twice at polling booths, later claiming to disperse the mob, however, four casualties happened that day.
Also, Trinamool Congress asked for action against Rahul Sinha and BJP's Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh for their instigating remarks on the Cooch Behar firing. The Trinamool complained to the ECI that BJP leaders were provoking violence with warnings of more such incidents.
TMC leaders in their complaint to ECI referred to Dilip Ghosh's speech on April 11, in Baranagar, where he warned of similar incidents if anyone overstepped their limits.
Besides, in case of Rahul Sinha, the BJP's candidate in Habra constituency, the TMC leaders alleged that during the campaigning he said that not four, eight people should have been shot dead in Shitalkuchi.
