Panic erupted in Bengaluru on Friday after an anonymous email claimed to have planted explosives in Bengaluru schools. As per reports, more than 15 schools in Bengaluru were evacuated when administrative staff received mail, saying explosives had been planted in educational institutions and could be detonated anytime.
Reports suggest that anonymous email first targeted seven schools, including Napel and Vidyashilpa in Basaveshwar Nagar, were subjected to these alarming threats. One of the threatened schools is situated opposite the residence of Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar.
Thereafter, a similar kind of email was received by 7 more schools. As a result, the Bengaluru Police evacuated students and staff from the schools as a safety precaution. However, on being searched no explosives were found.
Amid the Bengaluru school bomb threat, city's police commissioner B Dayananda was quoted saying, "As of now, it looks like a hoax message. We will complete the search operation soon. However, we request parents not to panic," he said, adding, "Last year too, miscreants had sent similar emails to many schools in the city."
CP Bengaluru also took official X handle and wrote, "Certain schools in Bengaluru city have received emails today morning indicating 'bomb threat'. Anti sabotage and bomb detection squads have been pressed into service to verify and ascertain. The calls seem to be hoax. Even then all efforts will be made to trace the culprits."
