On Thursday, the President Ram Nath Kovind said that several efforts has been taken for the betterment of the lives of women in the country by the NDA Government at the Centre.
In his address to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, that marks the beginning of the Budget Session, Mr Kovind said under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana, nearly six crore women have been associated with the self help groups.
The Government has made available 75,000 cr loan for these self help groups.
The President said, the biggest beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana were the women. Out of the 15 cr Mudra loans, 73 per cent have gone to women entrepreneurs.
To ensure that they get enough time for bringing up their children, the period of maternity leave for women has been increased from 12 weeks to 26 weeks, he added.
