Veteransinger cum songwriter Bhupinder Singh died yesterday due to cardiac arrest inMumbai. He was 82 and during this period he has left enough reasons in front ofus why he will be remembered for long? Bhupi was born in Amritsar in the year1940, to a trained vocalist and his teacher in the early stages of life, NathaSingh. There was a point in Bhupinder’s career he was in complete hate with hisfather’s musical instruments but everything got settled over the due passage oftime.
BhupinderSingh at the very onset of his career performed at The ‘All India Radio’ andwas also associated with ‘Delhi Doordarshan Centre’. In the year 1964, musicdirector Madan Mohan heard him over AIR and invited him to Bombay. There hegot his first breakthrough with ‘Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga’ withlegendary Mohammad Rafi. Though he didn’t get too much recognition at the rate atwhich this song got hit, his career remained quite low in the early phase of hislife, he only signed for low-budget films.
Buttides and fortune for Bhupi turned when he joined R.D.Burman’s orchestra andplayed guitar in multiple tracks for him, including ‘Dum Maaro Dum’.
