Punjab: Bhutanese students along with British nationals evacuated from Amritsar airport via special chartered flights

As many as 136 students of Bhutan studying in Lovely Professional University and other institutions who were examined by a team of the Health Department led by Dr TP Singh, left for Bhutan in a special chartered flight sent by the Royal Bhutanese governmnet to Amritsar on Monday morning.

However, 136 passengers were on the list, two of them did not appear for boarding informed KBS Sidhu, IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Punjab via twitter.

It was being informed by the Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal that special LPU buses dropped these students at the Amritsar Airport. 

She also added that blood samples of 27 contacts of Neeti Chauhan, LPU student who had tested positive for coronavirus were also taken and sent to lab on Sunday night for examination. Six students of Bhutan were admitted to the Civil Hospital after they became unwell on Sunday night and were discharged later.

Meanwhile, medical teams are busy examining the remaining people on the LPU campus which was sealed after a student had tested positive. DC Deepti Uppal, SSP Satinder Singh and CMO Dr Jasmeet Bawa are assessing and monitoring the ground situation. 

In addition to this, as many as 271 British nationals who were stranded here have been evacuated by the British High Commission's special chartered flight, operated by the British Airways from the Amritsar International Airport today.

All the passengers boarded the airplane at 2:30 pm.
