Former Punjab Chief Minister & Congress' Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidate, Charanjit Singh Channi has been embroiled in controversy ever since his video touching Bibi Jagir Kaur's chin went viral on social media. On May 10, 2024, during nomination filing, Charanjit Channi met the Ex-President of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC). Seeing her, Channi on a lighter note touched Bibi Jagir Kaur's chin. This sparked a massive outrage as many felt that Charanjit Channi's gesture was inappropriate. Amid the outrage, Punjab State Commission for Women on Monday sent a notice to the DGP calling for immediate action against the former Chief Minister. Now, Bibi Jagir Kaur has finally broken her silence in the entire controversy. Bibi Jagir Kaur clarified that Channi was only paying his respects and not inappropriately touching her. Below is what Bibi Jagir Kaur wrote in a detailed note on her Facebook-
"At the time of filing nomination papers on 10th May 2024 we were coming back from filing nomination papers of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Shri Mahinder Singh KP so at that time former CM Punjab Shri Charanjit Singh Channi filed papers with his family and senior Congress leaders Were going to pick up. All the leaders called Fatiha with respect and respect when they were face to face.
S; Charanjit Singh Channi bowed in front of me and in the same way, he held my hands and put his forehead with respect. Channi touched my chin in the same pleasant and respectful environment. I view all of this scenario in respectful wholeness.
But sadly other people on several channels on social media have made the video viral in which Channi cut off the respectful part of me being very bowed towards me and played the rest of the short clip to exaggerate it Weighed in. Actually cutting this part of the video apart was very naughty and very mentally distressing and painful for me,my family and my well wishers."
