Tajinder Singh Bittu, AICC Secretary In-Charge of Himachal Pradesh and former MP Late Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s wife Karamjit Kaur have joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a big blow for Congress.
Bittu is a close aide of the Gandhi Family and was AICC Secretary In-Charge of Himachal Pradesh. He has fought the MLA election from the Central Constituency in Jalandhar and is considered one of the senior members of the party. Karamjit Chaudhary, who is the wife of former MP, Late Santokh Singh Chaudhar, had contested Jalandar by-elections last year as a Congress candidate. Her son, Vikram Chaudhary is Congress’ MLA from Phillaur. She belongs to a prominent Dalit family with big influence in Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur.
Karamjit Chaudhary and her son, Vikram Chaudhar wanted to contest from Jalandhar as per sources and were against giving the ticket to Ex-CM Charanjit Channi. This is being seen as a major shift as they were prominent faces for Congress. They joined BJP in the presence of union minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
