The Punjab Government recently announced several amendments to the transfer policy for the Education Department.  Several employees have been given relief thanks to these amendments in case of serious afflictions to family members which would require a transfer such as a severe disease or death of a spouse. Teachers can apply for transfer immediately according to the amendments.

The government has amended paragraph no. 8 of the Transfer Policy 2019. Such cases will be heard on monthly basis. Applications for transfer can also be given online. Orders will then be issued with the approval of the Education Minister.

Relief given in these cases:

The amendment in the transfer policy has been made by the government after much brainstorming and suggestions from the employees’ association. This includes cancer patients themselves (spouse, children), spouse or children on dialysis, liver/kidney transplant, people with more than 40% disability, disabled children or persons with intellectual disability/war widow/martyr's widow, where due to the death of the spouse it becomes necessary to immediately transfer the serving employee to another place. Apart from this, cases of children below 18 years of age or teachers whose spouses are posted in difficult areas have been included in this category.

Nearly 1.25 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff are deployed in the Punjab Education Department. There are more than 19 thousand schools in the state with more than 30 lakh students in schools. The government has been preparing to amend this policy for a long time which was finally approved by CM Bhagwant Mann in the last cabinet meeting. Orders in this regard have now been issued.
