On Sunday, a Covid-19 victim’s body was carried to a crematorium on a garbage cart of the Municipal Corporation for last rites in Nalanda, Bihar.

The body was taken to crematorium number 17 in Biharsharif. The video has gone viral on social media which shows that the municipal workers are carrying a dead body covered with a PPE kit on a garbage cart.
The victim is identified as Manoj Kumar, who died due to a coronavirus infection on May 13.
Dr Sunil Kumar, Surgeon in Nalanda Civil Hospital said that after proper investigation the action would be taken against those who are involved in this incident. Dr Sunil Kumar said, “I have been told that the body of Covid victim was carried to the crematorium on a garbage cart. We have more than 200 vehicles to take bodies to the crematorium. A proper investigation will be done into the matter and action will be taken against those who are involved in the incident.”

Locals told that the ward council of ward number eight of Municipal Corporation was asked to perform the last rites. They also said that the ward council has informed that the last rites of unclaimed bodies would be performed by the municipal corporation and the bodies would be taken by the municipal vehicles.
According to the Health Ministry, there are 82,487 active Covid cases in Bihar and the death toll has mounted to 3,743. While 5,58,785 people have recovered from the disease till now.
