On Saturday, actor Arjun Kapoor celebrates his 36th birthday. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Sardar Ka Grandson were two of the most recent films in which the Bollywood actor appeared. Critics and fans alike praised him for the former.

But did you know that Arjun Kapoor's entrance into the film industry was not without its challenges? Arjun used to be overweight, and he had to shed nearly 50 kilos before landing his first role. Arjun talks about his journey on an episode of The Anupam Kher Show.

He said, "I was a 140 kgs. When Salman Bhai (Salman Khan, actor) encouraged me that I can be an actor, he told me 'Main tumhare andar se ek insaan nikaluga (I will take an entire man out of you)'."

He went on to say that his parents' separation had a negative impact on him. His father, Boney Kapoor, divorced his mother, Mona Shourie when he was 10 years old. He said that he would be teased at school for it, so he stopped going there. He would sit at home and eat while his mother, who was also going through a difficult time, pleaded with everyone to let him live his life when he saw fit.

His mother, on the other side, encouraged him when he wanted to pursue a career as an actor. "Then I stayed at home for four years to reduce weight. Who else has the luxury of spending four years losing weight."

He said when asked how he ultimately lost weight,"I just started living with Salman. Everyone is busy, but if you truly love yourself, you must set aside time for yourself and be patient. This is a way of life. I couldn't say 'I've lost weight and now I can do anything after working out for three months. That's a decision I made, and I'm not going back on it.On bad days, I'll be watching TV and Hrithik Roshan will be dancing with his six pack abs, while I'll be sitting here with my tond (belly) hanging out. He said, "Ye toh nahi hone wala mujhse (I can't do this)."

Arjun has a number of projects in the works, including Bhoot Police, with Saif Ali Khan, and Ek Villain 2, with John Abraham.
