In the elections held on Thursday, the BJP won one seat each in Assam, Tripura and Nagaland. BJP has become the first party since 1990 to touch the 100 mark in Rajya Sabha. After the election, the BJP has reached the number of having 101 seats in Rajya Sabha.
The elections were held for 13 seats in six states. It includes 1 seat in Himachal Pradesh, 3 in Kerala, 2 in Assam, 1 in Nagaland, 1 in Tripura and 5 in Punjab. BJP lost one seat from Punjab and won three seats from North-East states.
The official announcement of the seats is to be made yet. After the announcement BJP will reach 101. At present, the BJP has 97 members in Rajya Sabha. The BJP had 55 seats in the Rajya Sabha in 2014 and has been steadily increasing since then.
In 1988, Congress had a total of 108 seats in Rajya Sabha but after time it started declining. The number of Congress in Rajya Sabha is continuously declining.

The polling will be held in many states for the 52 seats of Rajya Sabha soon. BJP’s hold may get weaker in these elections as these elections include states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand where violations are expected.
