Bengali actor turned politician Srabanti Chatterjee who had joined Bharatiya Janata Party just a few months before the Assembly polls in March this year, has announced her decision to quit the party on Thursday.
Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bengali actor was nominated from the Behala Paschim constituency, however, she had lost to TMC leader Partha Chatterjee by 50,884 votes.
While quitting BJP, she said the party's “lack of initiative and sincerity to further the cause of Bengal” is the reason for her resignation.
“Severing all ties with the BJP, the party for which I fought the last state elections. Reason being their lack of initiative and sincerity to further the cause of Bengal,” she said in a tweet.
