BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy likely to rejoin TMC

BJP national vice-president and MP from Krishnanagar North, Mukul Roy is likely to return to Trinamool Congress (TMC). According to reports, the final decision regarding his return will only be taken after he meets with the TMC top brass in Kolkata on June 11, today.

Reportedly, there had been many speculations throughout this week that Roy can return to Trinamool Congress, the party he once helped establish. Along with Mukul Roy, his son Subhrangshu Roy is also speculated to join TMC. 

The absence of three heavyweight BJP leaders- Mukul Roy, Shamik Bhattacharya and Rajib Banerjee at a recent meeting of the party’s West Bengal unit has sparked the Buzz in the state’s politics. This comes at a time when several turncoat politicians, who switched from Trinamool Congress to Bhartiya Janata Party ahead of West Bengal Assembly polls have expressed regret over their decision.

Meanwhile, BJP has shown indifference over Mukul Roy’s potential return to TMC. According to those familiar with the situation, Mukul Roy left his home in Kolkata at 2 pm and was headed for the TMC headquarters to meet Mamata Banerjee.

Mukul Roy, once was a close aide of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. However, he had a falling-out with her after being named an accused in the Narada sting operation case in 2017. He was suspended for six years over ‘anti-party activities’ after which he eventually left TMC. Later Mukul Roy joined BJP and his son following his footsteps also joined the party in 2019. In 2020, Roy was made the national vice-president of the BJP.
