Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP has released a message in the form of an animated video song recreating the popular Italian protest folk song “Bella Ciao” with a Bengali twist to it and also shared it on their social media account. The lyrics of Bella Ciao has been changed to “Pishi Jaao” in Bengali which means “Aunty, Leave”. The message is clearly referring to Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. The song had featured in the hit Netflix series Money Heist.
A video song features animated scenes with the lyrics illustrating the state of affairs in West Bengal, as BJP believes so.
Here are the lyrics:
"Bangla e shudu, dangabaazi, o pishi jaao, pishi jaao, pishi jaao, jaao, jaao. Raasta behaal, bangla e aakal, pishi jaao, jaao, jaao, pishi jaao. Kano mitthe, mitther prochaar? Pishi jaao, jaao, jaao, pishi jaao (There are only riots in Bengal, aunty leave. Roads are in a bad state and so is Bengal. Aunty, leave. Why are you publicizing lies? Aunty, leave)," are the lyrics of the song in Bengali.
"#BanglaDidirThekeMuktiChay (Bengal needs freedom from Didi)," BJP u d this hashtag in their post. Mamata Banerjee is referred to as Didi (elder sister in Bengali) by her followers and as Pishi (paternal aunt in Bengali) by her critics.

Bella Ciao meaning “Goodbye Beautiful” is an Italian protest folk song that originated in the late 19th century, which was sung by mondina workers in protest of the harsh working conditions in the paddy fields. The song was then modified and adopted as an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance by the Italian partisans during the Italian Resistance movement. Since then the song is sung worldwide as a hymn of freedom and resistance.
