Amid the ongoing controversy over director Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files', BJP states announced to make the film tax-free. The politics has intensified over the film. While some ministers are praising it, some are criticising and demands a ban on it.

People who are demanding a ban on the movie said that the film has been used as propaganda. However, this is not the first time in the present government itself, when a film is in the news for political reasons.

Why there is so much uproar over ‘The Kashmir Files’?

Director Vivek Agnihotri's film 'The Kashmir Files' has created panic as soon as it releases in theatres on March 11. The story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits is shown in the film. Due to which it has been made tax free in 5 BJP ruled states including UP. In many places, BJP supporters are getting it screened for free. BJP is promoting this film as a party agenda.

On the other hand, Congress has criticized the film by tweeting. The Kerala Congress on its Twitter handle accused the film of distorting facts. Along with this, Assam MP Badruddin Ajmal has also protested against the movie Kashmir Files and demanded a ban on it.

Earlier, in 1963, Indira Gandhi imposed a ban on 'Aandhi', and then the Janata government removed the ban. The story of Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse was to be shown in this film. After this, Balraj Sahni's film 'Garm Hawa', made on the partition of the country, was banned in 1973. The story of a Muslim family was shown in this film, after which the controversy started.

Appreciating Vivek Agnihotri's film 'The Kashmir Files', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said more films like this need to be made so that people can know the truth.

“Some people talk about the freedom of speech. You may have noticed, Emergency is such a big event, no movie covered that incident. There was a constant attempt to suppress the truth. When we decided to commemorate the day of the partition of India on August 14 as the day of terror, many people got into big trouble. How can a country forget... sometimes there is something to be learned from it. Was there an authentic film on the partition of India?” Modi added.
