Below is all about Bodkin True Story-
Is Bodkin a true story?
The answer is no. Despite the makers using the term in the trailer that Bodkin is based on a true story based on an mysterious disappearance of three people from a village in Ireland, the Netflix series is not a real story. Just like famous shows like Based On A True Story and Only Murderers in the Building, Bodkin's true story claims are also somewhat false. Creator Jez Scharf informed Netflix that the idea for Bodkin came when he was thinking about the 'morality' of true crime. "They’re often very tragic stories, but are parceled up into neat episodes with a good hook at the end,” said Bodkin maker.
It is pertinent to mention here that the makers in the trailer points out that Bodkin is a true story based on the stories overheard in a Pub and this is what the root cause of confusion.
Notably, Bodkin has been partially shot in West Cork. The Irish coastal district was also the center of a popular 2018 podcast called West Cork, which revolved around the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996. For the unversed, Ian Bailey was convicted by a French court in absentia over the 1996 murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier. A British man long suspected of killing the wife of a famous French film producer in Ireland has died at age 66.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bodkin is also a fictional name and not an actual name of a village or city in Ireland. Jez Scharf was quoted saying, "It’s a fake town, it’s a fake place. It’s all fake people. The mystery itself, we worked very hard to find something that is in no way adjacent to a real true crime story. The fictionality of it was very deliberate."
