With the Karnataka hijab row snowballing into a major controversy, many Bollywood celebs have condemned this act. Everyone is expressing their opinion on this matter. Bollywood celebs include Kangana Ranaut, lyricist Javed Akhtar, BJP leader and actress Hema Malini, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhaskar, Kim Sharma, Kamal Haasan, Neeraj Ghaywan have also come to the fore.
On Thursday, Kangana shared a post on Facebook. She wrote, "This is Iraq, in less than 50 years it has turned from bikinis to burkha, if u want to show courage show it by not wearing burkha in Afghanistan, learn to break free don’t cage yourself, India is a blessing enjoy your freedom, don’t try to turn it also in to a nightmare please"
Lyricist Javed Akhtar took to Twitter and wrote, “I have never been in favour of Hijab or Burqa. I still stand by that but at the same time I have nothing but deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls and that too unsuccessfully. Is this their idea of “MANLINESS”. What a pity.”
Earlier, Kamal Haasan wrote, “What is happening in Karnataka is provoking unrest. A religious poison wall is being erected among the students who are not lying. What is happening in the neighbouring state beyond the single wall should not come to Tamil Nadu. It is time for the progressive forces to be more careful.”
Speaking on Hijab row, BJP MP Hema Malini said that schools are for education and religious matters should not be taken there.
Condemning the incident, Richa Chadha shared on Twitter, “Raise your sons better! A bunch of ugly, cowards attacking a lone woman in a pack and feeling proud of it ? WHAT LOSERS! Shameful. They'll be jobless, more frustrated and penniless in a few years. What poor upbringing! No sympathy, no redemption for them. I spit on your kind.”
The hijab row started last month, few students of Udupi Government Pre-University College wearing hijab were denied permission to attend classes. The college authorities maintain that the students who used to come without hijabs have suddenly started coming in hijab. The students later went on a protest refusing to attend classes without hijab. The issue became a controversy and spread to other districts snowballing into a major crisis in the state.
