A new political storm is in the making in Punjab after senior Congress leader & LoP Pratap Singh Bajwa made a shocking claim over repeated grenade attacks in the state. Pratap Bajwa in a TV interview claimed that 50 grenades have entered Punjab out of which 18 have already exploded while 32 still remain. Following Bajwa's bizarre remarks, an FIR has been registered against him at the State Cyber Crime Police Station in Mohali under sections 197 (1)(d) and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As per reports, Bajwa has been summoned for questioning at 12 PM today in Mohali. The summons was served at his residence in Sector 8, Chandigarh, though he was reportedly not home at the time.
After an FIR was filed against Bajwa, AIG Counter Intelligence Ravjot Grewal visited LoP's residence and questioned him about the source of his information. After a brief 15-minute interaction, Grewal told the media that the Congress leader was not cooperating. By 8 PM, on Sunday evening, shortly after the full interview aired, the FIR was officially filed.
What did CM Bhagwant Singh Mann say about Bajwa's remarks?
In his address, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann demanded that Bajwa should disclose his source. CM Mann questioned, "Who are Bajwa’s connections in Pakistan that terrorists are directly informing him about bomb deliveries? This information isn’t with intelligence agencies or the central government—so how did he receive it?"
Furthermore, the Punjab Chief Minister alleged that Bajwa might be deliberately spreading fear or waiting for a tragedy to gain political mileage, warning of strict action if he fails to reveal the source.
Pratap Bajwa denied to reveal his source
Despite the FIR and political uproar, Bajwa refused to reveal his source saying, “... I won’t reveal my source. I come from a family that has suffered due to terrorism. If I have credible information about threats, I must stay alert."
