What is Retrograde Amnesia?
The Malayalam movie showcases Reethu suffering from Retrograde Amnesia after she met with an accident in which she was in a car with Dr. Royce. Due to Retrograde Amnesia, Reethu often forgets everything that has happened to her or whatever she has done in the entire day.
As per Cleveland Clinic, Retrograde amnesia is when a person cannot recall memories from the past. Anterograde amnesia is when the person cannot form new memories but can still remember things from before he/she developed this amnesia. Amnesia can happen for many reasons. The causes fall broadly into two main categories: neurological causes and psychological causes.
The movie showcases Reethu being physically assaulted and even deliberately drowned in the bathtub by her husband Dr. Royce so she suffers from trauma and whatever memory she can collect in the entire day, she forgets. (Spoilers Ahead)
In the end, it was found that Dr. Royca was the actual kidnapper and murderer of 13 girls. Interestingly, in the end, Reethu turned out to be one of the victims of Dr. Royce. In fact, Reethu real name was Esther Emmanuel and she was abducted by Royce. However, due to the accident, Esther was diagnosed with Retrograde Amnesia. Hence, Royce makes a fake story that Esther's name is Reethu and she is his wife. Thereafter, Royce starts to use her in his crimes to lure and abduct other women.
In the end, it was Meera, a criminologist, who found out the truth about Dr. Royce. Meera cracks the case after she visits Royce's farmhouse where he carries out his entire crime.
