Bus full of passengers falls into drain after collision with truck on Kotkapura Road in Faridkot; 5 dead

A bus full of passengers and a truck collided fiercely on Tuesday morning on the Sem Nala bridge near Shahi Haveli at Kotkapura Road in Faridkot, Punjab.

In a disturbing development, a horrible accident took place in Punjab on early Tuesday morning. A bus full of passengers and a truck collided fiercely. The collision was so severe that the truck overturned on one side and the bus fell straight into the drain. Many people are feared dead in this accident. At present, efforts are being made to take out the passengers present at the spot.

The horrific accident took place on Kotkapura Road in Faridkot. There was a fierce collision between a truck and a bus on the Sem Nala bridge near Shahi Haveli.  This bus belonged to New Deep Company and many passengers were on board. The injured are being taken to the hospital by ambulance. It is being told that 5 people are reported to have died in this accident and at least 30 have been injured. 

Eyewitness Shamsher Singh, who was returning home after visiting the shrine of Baba Rode Shah, stated that the bus was carrying a full load of passengers. Due to the speed and dense fog, the driver failed to notice the oncoming truck. The impact of the collision caused the bus to lose balance, crash through the bridge railing, and fall into the drain, leading to chaos and panic among the passengers.

Local residents quickly gathered at the site and assisted in the rescue efforts using ladders. Many injured passengers were pulled out and transported to the hospital in police vehicles.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also expressed his condolence in a post on his X handle. CM Mann wrote (Translated Version) A major accident took place in Faridkot this morning, where a bus full of passengers fell into a drain after colliding with a truck. Due to this, many people were injured and the condition of many is said to be critical. I have asked the administration to immediately help the injured and I am constantly in touch with the administration. We pray to God for the peace of the souls of the passengers who lost their lives in this accident and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured."

Authorities Investigating the Cause

DC Vineet Kumar confirmed that approximately 35 passengers were on board. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but authorities suspect that the collision may have occurred while attempting to overtake on the bridge, which was under construction.

“The primary focus is on providing medical aid to the injured. A report is being prepared and will be submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office. Strict action will be taken against those responsible,” DC Vineet Kumar stated.

SSP Pragya Jain added that a case will be registered under relevant sections, and further investigations are underway to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the accident. Efforts are also being made to identify the deceased.

This accident highlights the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures, especially on under-construction bridges and fog-affected highways.
