The Canadian government has announced an increase in the processing fees for seven types of visas. This fee was supposed to get applicable from 1st December but the new rates have not been announced yet. These rates were not released on 1st December as it was a Sunday and it is expected that the new visa rates will be announced as soon as the office opens on 2nd December.

This increase in the fees will affect all those people who are on study, work or visit visa in Canada and want to extend their visas further. This announcement will have a huge impact on those people of Punjab who are currently in Canada on study, work or visit visa and want to extend their visa in Canada for some reason or the other. These categories mainly include temporary resident status-visitors, students and workers.

Visa fees in these categories are currently 229 Canadian dollars to 1148 Canadian dollars and are expected to increase by 20 percent.

Applicants who submit their applications to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before the fee hike will generally not be affected by the new rates.

Earlier this month, Canada also changed its tourist and student visa policies and the process for issuing new visas is being continuously tightened. People associated with the Canadian visa process say that in the coming days, it will become more difficult to get a Canadian visa and this will have a huge impact on Indians as well.
