It is said that noone can kill if the almighty is with you, a similar kind of incident has come into limelight from Toronto, Canada. A 30-year-old woman from Toronto, Canada survived being shot in the chest because of her silicone breast implants, a hospital has revealed.
As mentioned in the SAGE Medical Journal, doctors revealed how a silicone breast implant deflected the bullet away from the vital organs and kept the woman safe.
As per CNN reports, the incident took place in 2018 and it is one of the few instances in medical literature where a breast implant saved a person's life.
The examination by the doctors revealed that the bullet was lodged in the lower right chest after. It traveled through the left silicone implant but its trajectory was diverted. However, it was diverted with so much force that the right implant was found upside down.
However, the woman suffered nothing more than a broken rib after the close-range gunshot to her chest. But she rushed to the hospital when she saw blood coming out of her chest while walking down a street.
Giancarlo McEvenue told CNN the patient walked into the local emergency department and asked for help.
McEvenue said, "The bullet wound entry was on the left breast, but the rib fracture was on the right side. The bullet entered the skin on the left side first, and then ricocheted across her sternum into the right breast and broke her rib on the right side."
Both the implants were removed and the doctors said they were surprised with the case as it was very rare.
"Our report represents the fifth reported and the third, where the implant is believed to be responsible for saving the patient's life. Although rare, these observations lend support to the hypothesis that indeed breast implants can save lives.", McEvenue wrote in the SAGE Medical Journal.
