Captain Miller was the code name of Vallipuram Vasanthan. Vallipuram Vasanthan was commonly known by the nom de guerre Captain Miller. He was a Sri Lankan Tamil member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a separatist Tamil militant organisation in Sri Lanka. He was the LTTE's first Black Tiger.
For the unversed, Black Tigers were specialized suicide commando unit in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). As mentioned above, the first Black Tiger was Vallipuram Vasanthan (by the nom de guerre Captain Miller) who carried out the first suicide mission. On July 5, 1987, amidst the Battle of Nelliady, he drove a compact truck filled with explosives into a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp in Nelliady, Jaffna peninsula. This act resulted in his own death and caused the fatalities of an estimated 39 to 100 Sri Lankan soldiers.
Vallipuram Vasanthan joined LTTE as he was deeply hurt by the suffering of the victims of anti-Tamil riots. Vasanthan joined the militant Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 1983 as driver. He became a full time member of the LTTE a year later.
