The verbal spat between former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has taken an ugly turn. Sidhu in a series of tweets mentioned Capt Amarinder as ‘Jai Chand of Punjab’ after the latter announced that his party will ally with Bharatiya Janata Party in upcoming Punjab elections.
The name "Jaichand" is used as synonym of traitor and betrayal.
In his recent tweet, Sidhu said, “There is no suffering that pity will not insult! Were you unceremoniously dumped for good governance ? & 18 Point Agenda shoved down the throat of poorest performing CM of Punjab. You will be remembered as Jaichand of Punjab’s Political history, you are truly a spent cartridge.”
Sidhu’s strong word came after Captain used “brainless” remarks against him.
"He knows nothing, talks too much, doesn't have brains. I never spoke to Amit Shah or Dhindsa over this, but I'll. I want to be strong to fight Cong, SAD, AAP. I'll
talk to them, we'll put up a united front to defeat these," said Captain Amarinder.
Capt went on to say, “This man knows nothing. He just keeps shooting nonsense from his mouth. I'd been meeting all central ministers to discuss state issues. States can't
function unless they work with Centre. But I don't expect Sidhu to know anything about good governance.”
The whole controversy took place as Captain Amarinder announced his new party and hinted at an alliance with BJP to field a strong candidate against Sidhu.

Mocking Capt on his new party launch, Sidhu further said, "You wanted to close doors on me, as I was raising voice of the People, speaking truth to power! Last time you formed your
own party, you lost your ballot, garnering only 856 votes … People of Punjab are again waiting to punish you for compromising on the interests of Punjab.”
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh today, Former CM Captain Amarinder Singh confirmed that he is forming a new party in Punjab and said that “the name of the party will
be announced once the Election Commission clears it, along with the symbol. My lawyers are working on it”.
When asked about Navjot Sidhu, Amarinder said as far as Sidhu is concerned, wherever he fights from, his party will fight him. “When the time comes we will fight all 117 seats,
whether adjustment seats or we contest on our own”, he added.
He also confirmed that his party will have a seat-sharing arrangement with BJP.
Who was Jai Chand?
Jaichand, the King of Kannauj, is considered one of India's greatest traitors.
He along with Mohammad Gauri was the traitor who attacked Prithviraj Chauhan. Later, Prithviraj Chauhan was killed and Muslims were able to enter and conquer India.
