Considering the impact of coronavirus not only on the economy but educational institutions, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are thinking to reduce the syllabus by 50 percent for the academic year 2020-2021. Although the board earlier decided to cut the syllabus by 30%, that won't seem to last till long.
Besides this, the national education boards are also planning to delay the board exams by 45-60 days since schools haven’t reopened yet and only online classes are being carried out. However, neither of these plans have been finalised yet.
Though, the Centre govt has issued the guidelines for reopening schools and colleges during Unlock phase 5. Schools outside the containment zones have been allowed to open from October 15 and have left the final decision onto the states.

Reportedly, many parents are not ready to send their children to schools as the Covid-19 situation has not been controlled yet in India. Thus, it is very likely that schools are not reopening in full fervor anytime soon as attendance remains very low.
Also, the boards have said that no board exam questions would be set from the deleted topics but schools were free to teach those to students as per the academic calendar provided by NCERT. It has also released the CBSE sample papers based on the reduced CBSE syllabus.
Following CBSE and CISCE, several state boards also followed suit and reduced their syllabus by 25% to 30%.
