As per reports, the Centre is in favour of a short format exam for the Class 12 board exams and the state boards will be allowed to take an independent decision. This announcement was made after a meeting of a group of ministers, led by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, amid objections to exams from various states due to health risks. The dates for these exams will be announced on June 1.
The Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed two options for the Class 12 board exams, which were postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19.
CBSE has assured that their top priority is students and teachers safety and it will be taking a "flexible approach”.
According to the first option, the exams will be conducted within a period of three months were one month of pre-exam activities and two months for the exams and results declaration. Additional 30 days will be allowed for the compartment exams. It has been decided that exams will be helpful only for the majority of subjects which are around 20 and grading of minor subjects will be done based on performance in the major subjects.
As per the board officials, these exams will most likely be help in the month of August and the complete process will be wrapped up by the end of September.

Under the second option, 90-minute exams will be held in the 20 major subjects. The students have to appear in one language and three elective subjects. Based on their performance in these subjects, the results of the remaining one or two subjects will be decided. Designated centres will be allowed for these exams.
The students can take the exams at their own schools. "As the question papers will be delivered in electronic format to the centres, these exams do not need elaborate logistics and can be deployed and conducted in a flexible and responsive manner," the CBSE said in their suggestions.
Sources believe that the second options allow for the exams to be held twice and based on the conditions of the locations, examinations could start from a suitable date. In the remaining locations, exams will start after 15 days of the first phase.
