The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be introducing a ‘capacity building programme’ for the teachers for the academic session 2019-20. According to the board, a two-day workshop will be organised by the course to train teachers in ‘ethics and integrity’ for creation of ‘ethical leaders of tomorrow’.
The course which has been named as “A trainer manual for educators’ integrity and ethics” includes topics which will cover cognitive dissonance, Kohlberg stage of moral development and what the board calls ‘A to Z of Ethics’. CBSE in its latest circular stated, “Academic curriculum is constantly updated to meet the increasing demands of a changing knowledge society. Yet, we pay far less attention to the habits that build ethical leaders.”

Reports state that the teachers will be trained to upskill students mainly in five virtues namely: responsibility, respect, fairness, trustworthiness and honesty through ‘variety of historical topics and current events’. The board has said that there are no quantitative details in the curriculum. It also added, “The new course objective is to create an environment in which existing practices and policies can be critically examined and students can be sensitised.”
As per reports, the teachers will be trained through activities like role plays, anecdotes and approaching ethics and integrity through audiovisual media. CBSE informed that the teacher in turn will be teaching students through discussions on articles by well-known thinkers, such as the American psychologist, author and columnist Marilyn Price-Mitcheland.
