CCTV of Grenade Attack at Manoranjan Kalia's Jalandhar Home accessed; Attacker on E-Rickshaw seen hurling bomb

Shastri Market Chowk, a prominent area in Jalandhar, was jolted with sounds of loud explosions late Sunday night. A group of unidentified men carried out a grenade attack on the residence of senior BJP leader and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia. As per the information received the blast took place around 12: 30 AM to 1:00 AM. At the time of the blast, Manoranjan Kalia and his family members were inside the house, reportedly asleep. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, though significant property damage occurred due to the explosion. In the CCTV footage, a man was seen on CCTV arriving in an e-rickshaw, who then pulled the pin from a hand grenade and hurled it into Kalia's residence. Seconds later, a loud explosion was heard, shaking the area. According to reports, three suspects arrived—two on a motorcycle and one in an e-rickshaw. One of the attackers reportedly at the e-rickshaw, pulled the pin from a hand grenade, and hurled it into Kalia’s home, leading to a powerful explosion in the courtyard. However, in the CCTV, only E-rickshaw can be seen. The attack took place just 50 meters from a 24-hour police PCR team and only 100 meters from Police Station Division No. 3. 

In his address to the media, Manoranjan Kalia said, “I was asleep when I heard a loud noise, which I initially mistook for thunder. Later, I was informed that it was an explosion. I immediately sent my gunman to the police station. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, it was found that a person arrived in an e-rickshaw, pulled the lever of a hand grenade, and threw it into the premises, causing a powerful blast.”

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur confirmed that they received information about the blast around 1:00 AM. "Upon receiving the call, we rushed to the scene and began a thorough investigation. A forensic team was also dispatched to collect evidence," said Dhanpreet Kaur, Jalandhar Police Commissioner.
