The Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare is the nodal department for formulation of policies relating to pension and other retirement benefits of Central Govt. employees covered under CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 Apart from formulation of pension policy for the Central Govt. Pensioners/Family Pensioners, it also seeks to promote pensioners welfare and serves as a forum for the redressal of Pensioners' grievances.
As per the recent changes, Central government family pensioners can receive up to Rs 1.25 lakh as monthly family pension, according to details shared by Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.
Following are the key points:-
· The amount of maximum family pension under the Government is Rs 1,25,000 per month (i.e 50 per cent of the maximum pay in the government) plus dearness relief (DR) as admissible from time to time, as per details shared by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.
· So, if one is eligible and falls in this bracket, he or she will get Rs 1.25 lakh of family pension per month.
· Meanwhile, the amount of minimum family pension under the government is Rs 9,000 per month plus dearness relief as admissible from time to time, according to details the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.
These details have been shared as part of Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare’s series on “75 important rules related to Family Pension” with a view to creating awareness among elderly pensioners.

In a case if both the husband and wife were serving the country's central government and upon the death of both of them their dependent children will be eligible to receive up to two pensions capped at maximum Rs. 1.25 lakh per month.
In their previous notification, the upper ceiling of family pensions was raised from Rs 45,000 to Rs 1,25,000 per month informed Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh.
“The amount of both the family pensions will now be restricted to Rs 1.25 lakh per month, which is more than two and half times higher than the earlier limit,” Dr Singh added.
