Chandigarh-born woman gets appointed as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in Trump 2.0 cabinet

US President-elect Donald Trump appointed Harmeet K Dhillon as the assistant attorney general for civil rights, she is the fourth Indian-American to get nominated in Trump 2.0 Cabinet.

On 9th December, Monday, US President-elect Donald Trump announced Harmeet K Dhillon as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice. With this announcement, she has become the fourth Indian-American to get nominated in the Trump 2.0 Cabinet.

Before her three Indian-Americans have got nominated including Dr Jay Bhattacharya at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Vivek Ramaswamy at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Kashyap Kash Patel as Director of FBI.

US President-elect Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social announcing Harmeet as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and congratulated her.

Who is Harmeet Kaur Dhillon? 

Harmeet Kaur Dhillon is a 54-year-old American lawyer and Republican Party official. She is the former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, and a National Committeewoman of the Republican National Committee for California.

She was born in Chandigarh, India in a Punjabi Sikh family. Following which, her family shifted to the United States as her father, Tejpal Singh Dhillon wanted to pursue a career as an orthopaedic surgeon. She has attended elementary school in The Bronx, New York. Later on, her family got settled in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Harmeet is the founder of a law practice called Dhillon Law Group Inc. In 2018, she had helped in launching the 501 nonprofit Centre for American Liberty, which does legal work related to civil liberties. She is a regular guest on Fox News as well.

Trump praised Harmeet and wrote, “Throughout her career, Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished Civil Liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring our Free Speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying together during COVID, and suing corporations who use woke policies to discriminate against their workers.”

He shared more about Harmeet and wrote, “Harmeet is one of the top Election lawyers in the Country, fighting to ensure that all, and ONLY, legal votes are counted. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School, and clerked in the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Harmeet is a respected member of the Sikh religious community.
