In a tragic development, at least 6 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express on July 18, 2024, derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda. As per reports, two passengers were killed and multiple suffered injuries in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident. Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, train number 15904 derailed near Mankapur railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district. At least 6 coaches, including some AC coaches, derailed near Jhilahi railway station on the Gonda-Gorakhpur section around 3 pm. The injured were taken to the district hospital in Gonda.
A relief train was rushed to the spot along with ambulances Local police officials reached the spot and launched relief operations with the help of the local villagers, who gathered there in large numbers after the incident. Pankaj Singh, CPRO, North Eastern Railway was quoted saying, "... One death has been reported and there are 7 injuries including one severe injury......medical van of Railways has reached the spot and rescue operation has been started. Helpline numbers have been issued. It happened around 2.37 pm. As per initial info, 4-5 coaches derailed..."
Relief Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh while talking to a news wire informed, "One NDRF team each was sent from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda. 5 ambulances were deployed for rescue operations in the train accident and orders have been given to send more ambulances to the spot. First aid is being given to the injured. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. SDRF teams sent from three districts to expedite relief operations."
