Panic engulfed Chandigarh's posh locality Sector 10 after a grenade attack was reported on Wednesday. On Wednesday, a grenade attack took place on the house of a former Punjab Police officer in a posh locality in Chandigarh by miscreants who came in an auto-rickshaw. The explosion shattered the window panes of the house located in the upscale Sector 10 area of the city, though no one was injured in the incident. According to the police, three suspects were involved in the attack. While one of them hurled the explosive, two others were sitting in the auto-rickshaw which was captured on CCTV while fleeing the spot. Now, the Police officers investigating the case have given an update on the case.
As per reports, the Police are investigating the terror angle in the case. The police suspect that this incident was carried out by Lakhbir Singh Landa, a terrorist sitting abroad. The Police have accessed a new CCTV footage in which two suspicious youths were captured. This video is said to be from near the Sector 43 bus stand. The police are currently searching for these two youths.
Earlier, the Chandigarh Police arrested the driver of the auto in which the attackers came. His role has not been revealed in the investigation.
Chandigarh Police officer Lakhwinder Singh reportedly said that the investigation is being done by connecting the link of the former SSP's residence. All the agencies are investigating from different angles. The attackers had rented an auto from near Sector 43. When the attackers threw the bomb, the auto driver got scared and ran away from the spot, but his involvement is not visible in this case. The search is still on. Teams have been sent to many states apart from Punjab. Investigation is still on as to where the attackers came from.
CFSL teams have again reached the spot. The area has been sealed. Barricading has been done at 100-100 meters on both sides of the spot. In the morning, Chandigarh Police teams also investigated the nearby houses.
A grenade attack took place on Wednesday evening at the house of KK Malhotra, a retired principal from Himachal Pradesh, in the posh area of Sector 10. At the time of the incident, the family was sitting in the verandah. KK Malhotra was reading a book. As soon as he got up and went inside, this incident happened outside. His family members also saw the bomb throwers.
The bomb fell in the park built in the house and an 8-inch crater was formed there. The flower pots in the park and the glass in the windows were broken. Along with this, the glass of many other houses was also broken.
The Chandigarh administration has also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh to anyone providing information about any accused involved in the attack.
After the incident, the attention of the Chandigarh Police has gone to the FIR of the State Special Operations Cell Punjab registered in 2023. As per reports, two accused were caught in the said case by the Special Cell. They had told the Punjab Police that Harvinder Singh Rinda had sent them to do a recce of this bungalow a few years ago. The information of which was also shared with the Chandigarh Police.
