Chandigarh AQI, Chandigarh Air Quality, Chandigarh Second Worst Air Quality: Chandigarh's Air Quality on Tuesday evening reached the second worst in the country. Punjab and its surrounding areas have been witnessing a rise in AQI level for the past many days and smog has been covering multiple cities. Due to dense smog generated by poor AQI levels, many flight services are getting disrupted as well. Despite a reduction in farm fire cases in Punjab and Haryana as confirmed by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chandigarh's AQI touched 347 at 7:15 pm on Tuesday. This made Chandigarh's Air Quality the second worst in India. Interestingly, Delhi which is infamous for air pollution was not at the top of the list.

Which city in India became the most polluted city in terms of AQI?

As per the Central Pollution Control Board, a city named Hajipur in Bihar topped the unwanted list when its AQI reached 437 i.e. under the Severe category. Even Delhi, which is typically a pollution hotspot, recorded an AQI of 317 on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Chandigarh did not register any stubble-burning cases on Tuesday. Still, its air quality became the second most poor. Dr. Ravinder Khaiwal, professor, Department of Community Medicine and Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh was quoted by Express who revealed the possible reason behind it. He said, "Afternoon winds circulating over Punjab and Haryana passed through Chandigarh, carrying pollution from nearby areas and contributing to a spike in AQI. Notably, we’re observing a peak of crop residue burning along the Punjab-Haryana border and as air pollution levels rise, it is very important to take precautions to minimise health risk."
