Recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has urged the couples to have more children. He said, “We are thinking of providing incentives to families with more kids, in order to encourage couples to have more children. We have removed the earlier law that restricted people with more than two children from contesting local body elections. Now, we will introduce a new law to make only those with more than two children eligible to contest.”
“Having fewer than two children has led to the rapid decline of the young population in the state. Having more than two kids will ensure a stable population,” he further added.
CM expressed concerns about the ageing population of southern states. He said, “We have a demographic advantage only till the year 2047. After 2047, there will be more elderly people in comparison to young in Andhra Pradesh. It is already happening in Japan, China, and many other countries of Europe. Having more children is also your responsibility. You are not doing it for yourself, it is also for the benefit of the nation and for the society as well.”
He shared his worries about the ageing population of the state and said, “Earlier, I was in favour of population control and brought in legislation restricting persons having more than two children from contesting elections. I was afraid that a huge population would cause shortages of water, land, and other natural resources. You listened to me and brought down the population in Andhra Pradesh within just 10 years. Now, I am afraid that we won’t have enough young population in our state.”
