The countdown for the trailer release of Chandu Champion has begun with the makers all set to unveil it on Saturday, May 18, 2024. In the past few days, the makers of Chandu Champion have released the official posters of the upcoming movie starring Karthik Aryan. While in one pic, Karthik Aryan can be seen in the character of a boxer, in another the actor is seen in Army uniform and in the last one, he can be seen intensely running in a 'langot'. Jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion will be released on June 14, 2024. Apart from Karthik Aryan Chandi Champion features Bhuvan Arora, Palak Lalwani, Adonis Kapsalis, and more in the leading roles. Is Chandu Champion a true story?

The answer is yes. Chandu Champion is a sports biographical drama based on the true story of India's first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar. The film was reportedly shot across India and the UK. Notably, the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput reportedly wanted to make a film on Murlikant Petkar. For this, he even met the sports star.

Who is Murlikant Petkar?

Murlikant Petkar's inspiring story embraces quotes like- 'nothing is impossible' and 'Where there is a will there is a way. Born on November 1, 1944, Murlikant Petkar is renowned as India’s inaugural Paralympic gold medalist. He served as a private jawan in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) in the Indian Army. The real-life Chandu Champion lost his arm due to bullet wounds during action against Pakistan in 1965. Initially a boxer in the EME, Petkar switched to swimming and also competed in tennis.

At the 1972 Summer Paralympics, Murlikant Petkar clinched an individual gold medal and set a record in the 50m freestyle swimming event with a time of 37.33 seconds. His remarkable dedication to the nation has inspired Kabir Khan to direct a film based on his life. After his sports stint, Petkar was later employed by TELCO in Pune. In 2018, Patekar was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the President of India Ramnath Kovind.
