Punjab CM's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey earned Rs 325 crores through money laundering by using his name. Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that Bhupinder Singh Honey, the nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, allegedly used to take money from officials in lieu of their choice of transfer and posting.
Now, ED has tightened its noose on Channi’s close officials including all IAS, IPS, ECS and EPS. ED can summon those officials for further inquiry. As per sources, ED might call these officials or Channi before PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on February 14.
If ED calls Channi, Congress might get benefit from it by getting sympathy votes in elections. This step can also be advantageous for AAP in Punjab. But, the BJP govt will get no benefit from it during elections.
Bhupinder Singh alias Honey was arrested on February 4 with regards to an illegal sand mining case. Now, a local court in Punjab extended the custody of Bhupinder Singh under Enforcement Directorate (ED) for three more days i.e. till February 11.
On its part, the ED claims that cash of Rs 10 crore and valuables have been recovered in these raids conducted on Jan 18 and 19.
